All-states chart on mandatory breaks

The federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) doesn’t require your organization to provide employees with meal or rest breaks. It does require you to pay employees if those meal breaks last less than 30 minutes and if the employee works through the meal breaks.

But the FLSA is only the beginning. Forty states have laws covering meal and rest breaks. This chart summarizes those laws To get the full story on break laws, contact your state labor department.
