Virginia passes paid family leave for all workers

Employers and employees will begin paying into the program April 1, 2028, and it will be managed by the Virginia Employment Commission. Employees will begin receiving benefits Dec. 1, 2028. Covered leave reasons largely mirror those available as unpaid leave under the federal Family and Medical Leave Act.
