What if an employee misses time due to illness but there’s no sick leave available?

02/26/2018

Q: “I have a salaried employee out due to illness (eight days and counting). Our employee manual states that you cannot take any unpaid time off until your PTO has been exhausted. Since they missed a whole week of work, can we pay them for vacation time without their request? Or since they are salaried and don’t have sick leave, do we have to offer regular pay and not use their vacation time?” – Dawn, Georgia
